The Apache Software Foundation recently announced strides made toward greater accessibility for its popular free office software suite OpenOffice. Users should be able to benefit from these features as soon as early 2014, according to the official OpenOffice blog.
Office gifts have always been among the last I buy during the holidays because they flip my mind inside out trying to come up with something good yet affordable. Read More...
Patch Tuesday 2013 for November fixes vulnerabilities in many versions of Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook.
On the second Tuesday of every month, Microsoft releases updates for glitches, bugs, and potential security vulnerabilities, known as Patch Tuesday. It is just one of 3 Options for Updating Your Version of Microsoft Office.
You may also want to refer to Microsoft's recent fix prior to this Patch Tuesday. You no longer need to apply this fix as it is now automatically taken care of by November's patches; however, it is an important security tool to know about. Essentially, it acts as an emergency protection until the next group of fixes known as patches can be released.

Last month, Google Apps on Google Drive got a makeover, with updates to program icons, a smaller toolbar, widescreen presentations, editable master slides, and custom themes.
In late October, handwriting options arrived for Google Docs via the Text Input Tool. This helps when using characters in various languages while using Google Docs (in 20 languages) and Gmail (in 50 languages). For more detail, check out the Google Drive blog.

If you or your kids are dressing up for Halloween, you may still be heading out to find that costume.
Today I found an idea for making the hunt more interactive and fun in this Microsoft OneNote blog post: Halloween planning with OneNote.
OneNote can be a great way to collect inspiration, like I started doing here using retro comics to plan my Jungle Girl costume.
You can also communicate about a project vision with someone else. On enabled devices, you or your kids can draw or embellish existing pictures and much more.
If you've never used OneNote, it's really easy. Learn How to Use OneNote in 10 Easy Steps. I estimate most people can master these basics in less than 15 minutes.
OneNote may be included in your version of Microsoft Office. If it isn't, you can always try the free Microsoft OneNote Web App (or the more sophisticated Microsoft Office Mobile App if you have an Office 365 subscription).

Topics covered by the templates include bullying, hygiene, talking with others, sharing, and more. Templates are for Microsoft Office 2007 or later.
