Hurricane Sandy in the northeastern United States brings to mind the question of preparing your technology for power outages.

You can fully charge devices, but this will of course last only so long. Consider buying an external battery pack (Compare Prices). As further backup, consider a solar charger (Compare Prices) or hand crank charger (Compare Prices).

Internet connectivity is as much a threat as power itself. Router and wireless connectivity are likely to go first. Your second option will likely be to wire directly to your cable/internet service.

For known threats such as this Frankenstorm, you can move important documents off the internet or cloud and onto your device. This way, if the internet goes out but you still have power, you can access those files.

While productivity is not always the most ominous part of weathering a storm, staying connected as long as possible is always a valuable asset in difficulty, if at all possible.
