nullIf you haven't already heard about Microsoft's discounts for students, teachers, academic staff members, or administrators of home-school programs, public libraries, public museums, or other educational institutions, see Microsoft's Volume Licensing For Education Institutions site to see if you fit into one of these categories and qualify for a discount.

Plus, Microsoft's Licensing Options page shows some special offers for college and university students:

  • Microsoft Office Professional Academic 2010 for $79.95 (limited time offer)
  • Microsoft Windows 7 Professional for $29.99 (limited time offer)

And even if you aren't elgible for a discount, don't forget that everyone can benefit from Microsoft's free trial periods:

  • Windows users: You can try out Microsoft Office 2010 free for 60 days before deciding whether to purchase the suite.
  • Mac users: You have 30 days to take Office for Mac 2011 for a test run before your free trial period ends.
